Dad retired from OTP and we got to be there for his retirement party. Wow - what a party it was! It was such a nice celebration of a long career with a great company. So many of Dad's coworkers (past and present) came out to wish him well as he enters a new chapter. Admittedly, I had never been to a retirement party before my dad's, but his party was SO MUCH FUN! I wasn't expecting such an entertaining and celebratory program. Dad was really honored through many speeches, jokes, handshakes, hugs, and even a special song performed by a trio of OTP's finest performers. We laughed and cried and just had such a great time. It was fun to see some familiar faces from way back when. Because of Dad's long tenure with OTP, his coworkers have literally watched me grow up. It was such a special evening and I'm grateful beyond belief that Matt, the kids, and I were able to be there.
The girls opted for matching dresses! The dresses doubled as Easter dresses AND Daddy Daughter dance dresses for Alanna and Molly.
This rascally crew had a blast together at the party! They were playing some group games in the lobby during the social hour of the party (5:00-6:00ish) and then all the kids except Hattie sat together during the meal. Someone (probably Darla Neville) put together an otter craft for each of the kids to do once they were done eating. The kids also got to bring home a little plastic otter to play with. It was a kind gesture!
Their true colors.... :)
Carol and Grandma drove down from Valley City for the event. It really is pretty special to have your mom at your retirement party!
The party was held at the Bigwood Event Center, and we had stuffed pork chops, salad, and maybe mashed potatoes for dinner. There was a delicious spread of fruit and dip appetizer during the social, and of course we had cake after dinner.
The kids meal was chicken strips, corn, and french fries - a huge hit with the kids!
Matt, Hattie, and I sat with Jill and Brady at one of the tables right in front. Jason and Kathy sat with Mom, Dad, Grandma Reid, and Carol. We had great seats for the program.
Hattie sure enjoyed the cake!
Dad gave an excellent speech at the end of the evening. It was well thought out and delivered in an impressive fashion considering all of the emotions that come with retirement. No real surprise there - all of those years of Toastmasters paid off!
