Earth Day Fair

Saturday, April 18th

Roseburg had an earth day fair where the kids had an opportunity to build a bird house and feeder, learn about migratory birds, and renewable energy.  The cutest thing wAs when the guy running this booth asked Charlie what type of train this was and he responded a monorail.  The presenter looked a little dumbfounded and said that was the first time anyone had said that.  Charlie received a little extra prize for  that.  Smart boy!

A Little Top Heavy

Friday, April 17th

Molly is now walking everywhere, but her balance is not quit there.  We are noticing she is a little top heavy, as evidenced on her forehead . . . Ouch!

The kids spent an afternoon cutting out pictures and words from magazines and created their own magazine.  Good scissor practice for the upcoming school years.

Thank You Letters

4-13
We checked out the book Ten Thank You Letters from the library a few weeks ago and it was a pretty big hit. I should have checked it out a few weeks before Charlie's birthday as I'm pretty sure it would have inspired him to write actual birthday thank you notes to everyone he received a gift from (instead of just grandparents). I didn't know if he had the stamina to write all the letters himself - or, honestly, if I had the patience to spell out every letter for him. At any rate, Charlie was bound and determined to write a thank you letter to Drew one day and Alanna quickly chimed in with a desire to write to Tanna. I had other things to mail and needed to stop by the post office anyway, so the kids wrote their letters, Charlie wrote Drew's name on the envelope, and put the stamp on so it was all ready to go. I'm not sure why I don't drop more things in the mail; Charlie and Alanna like to send things and it's fun to get personal mail in the mailbox. Win win!

Sunday in Bandon

4-12
We took a day trip over to Bandon a few weekends ago to get out of the house and enjoy the sunshine a bit. It was a really, really windy day but we were at the beach at low tide and spent several hours there anyway. Matt and the big kids managed to throw out the crab pot for a bit before we headed to the beach but only caught one little crab. We walked, played on the rocks, and picked up treasures in the sand all while Molly slept for an hour and a half in the ergo. I was surprised she slept that long! I had her wrapped up really good so she was out of the wind, warm, and covered by my jacket so it was dark. Matt managed to zip my jacket on me backwards! I should have gotten a picture - I probably looked ridiculous. We did the usual stops in Bandon, sampling candy at Cranberry Sweets, playing at the toy store for a bit, and even stopping by Face Rock Creamery. I thought it was all ice cream, but they make cheese and have tons of free samples of some seriously delicious cheese. Matt's favorite was a cranberry walnut cream cheese that I'm sure he sampled three times. I was loving the cheese curds, namely a garlic one that was super smelly and delicious. We all shared the biggest kid-sized ice cream scoop I have ever seen at the end; $2 for a heaping bowl of huckleberry cheesecake ice cream. It was so yummy!

Markers and Rocking Chairs

4-6
Charlie and Alanna were trying out their new markers and sketchpads they received in their Easter baskets. I managed to hold out until now before letting the kids play with markers in our house.

4-9
This is Molly's last night wearing a size 12 month fleece sleeper. On to bigger sizes for this girl!

4-10
Molly figured out how to climb up onto the chair and stand on it. She has been very good about getting down carefully, but even if she crashes to the ground a bit, it's not that far and our carpet is really soft. (Bad mom alert?!)

Easter 2015

4-5
Happy Easter!
I prepped the kids' Easter baskets the night before and Matt hid them for the kids to find the next morning. We didn't even breathe the words "Easter Bunny" but rather hid the baskets just for the sake of hiding them. We're talking, behind the chair or couch, people. Nothing elaborate. This was the only picture of Charlie and Alanna and their Easter baskets before they were completely torn apart. Molly woke up later so I was able to grab some pictures of her checking out her basket. She really liked having the bow in her hair which I was pretty surprised about!

Easter dress clothes after 9:30 church

Lake Grandma and Grandpa mailed out a few Easter gifts for the kids. So fun!

Country Grandma and Grandpa mailed out some Easter gifts as well - a new movie for each of the kids!

While Molly was napping, Matt organized an indoor egg hunt for Charlie and Alanna in the living room. He hid about 50 eggs each filled with a few jelly beans or an eraser. The reward at the end of the hunt was opening eggs and eating candy!

We went to Josh and Anna Heacock's house at 4:30 for a ham dinner with a group of misfit toys (people who don't have family or anywhere else to go for Easter). We stayed for a few hours and had a good time with lots of yummy food. It was a fun day with a nice mix of activities and down time.
