8-1
Kubes arrived mid-afternoon on Saturday, so after some time setting up camp and visiting, we headed across the road from the campground to the Nisqually River to throw some rocks. The water is purely glacial melt from the mountain, exactly like the rivers Matt and I crossed when we were backpacking in Denali National Park. I'm certain the kids would have stayed there for the remainder of the day if we let them, but their hungry tummies were calling. We walked back to the campsites (right next to each other, planned on purpose, and the main reason we booked so super early!) and got to work preparing supper. The rest of the evening was spent talking, playing in the woods, eating supper and roasting marshmallows over the fire. This was Kube's first family camping trip and we got to share the experience with them. That, and be there for backup in case they forgot anything necessary to survival. :)
