Day Camping

8-27
Well, we just couldn't resist heading up into the mountains for a day camping experience. Matt got his eye on some raspberries earlier in the week when he was in this area for work. That was pretty much all it took for us to head up into the mountains for the day! We packed some lunch to make over the fire; sandwiches with blueberries and cream cheese in the middle. YUM! We scoured the area for raspberries but didn't find more than a small handful to eat. The bears beat us to them! We still had fun searching and sampling.

Charlie wanted to chop some wood. Go right ahead!
Then we went on an adventure in the woods to see what we could find. Almost immediately, we stumbled upon some bones, so that warranted a discussion on which bone it was and what kind of animal it was from. I thought it was pretty lucky that we found a few bones, but after we took about 20 more steps and found another pile of bones, and then yet another pile a few yards after that, Matt told me that there would probably be quite a few remnants of old carcuses because this was an area commonly used for hunting camps. Duh! I didn't even think about it! Ha!

Last find for the day: a giant basketball-sized mushroom. They're totally edible so we brought it home and ate maybe a quarter of it throughout the week. Hattie is holding half of the mushroom in the picture. It was huge!
