August 11
Charlie made the decision to be baptized this summer, and we could not be prouder of him. He had to meet with a staff pastor at our church (Loren), and he also had to prepare a few sentences as to why he wants to be baptized and declare it in front of our church family before the baptism. He was baptized in the river right by the train park, and actually Matt and I were the ones to dunk him. It was a really special moment! The bible says 'believe and be baptized' (Mark 16:16; believe first and then the baptism is an outward expression of a commitment to the Lord), and Charlie did just that. We're so proud of you, Charlie!
Charlie's friend (and classmate, and also my piano student) Calie was baptized on the same day. Her dad, Eric, and two other guys were also baptized. We got it all done before it started raining!
Mid-August brought a nesting day for Molly to prepare her for kindergarten. Mrs. Jarvis puts on nesting days for kids to come in and orient themselves with the classroom just a bit. Molly got to bring most of her supplies, pick out a desk, find her cubby, and put most of her supplies away. Nellie also gave Molly some instructions when putting things away (put your red folder in the blue container on the table by the pencil sharpener, or something like that). Isn't that such a smart and sneaky way to get a gage on following directions? She's so clever. Molly was thrilled at the chance to go to her classroom. It means that school is not far away!
