September 2019

On Labor day, since Matt was home a day earlier than expected, we took a little day trip to Cripple Creek. I heard of a restaurant that serves $0.49 breakfast (like two scrambled eggs, two pieces of bacon, and toast or something equivalent - it's a breakfast, not just 50cent items) from 6-10am. That was our goal! We left the house at 8am and made it to the restaurant in Cripple Creek by 9:15. It's in a casino so there are pretty strict rules about where the kids can and can't be, but we checked in and got our buzzer, and then sat to wait. We eventually wandered downtown (all while waiting) and found a playground to play at. It was a beautiful morning! It was also very quiet in town - except for the restaurant that we wanted to go to, which was quite busy. When it got closer to 10am, we headed back to the restaurant hoping that we would be able to get a seat before they stopped serving 50cent breakfast at 10. It's a hard stop, no grace given. Unfortunately, our buzzer didn't go off and they didn't have a table for us before 10. We could have waited longer and then just ordered from their regular menu, but the whole reason for us going was to order 50 cent breakfast!! :( So we skipped the restaurant and went a few doors down for donuts. At this point, we were all starving! It was an adventure for sure. I thought we left with plenty of time to spare, but I guess the next time we try it, we'll have to leave at 7am!
Second place donuts at a little bakery downtown. And no, they were NOT 50 cents. :(
Continuing on our drive, we went from Cripple Creek to Woodland Park to spend some time. We didn't walk downtown as it didn't seem like downtown was that accessible. We found a thrift store and the rec center in town. I packed swimsuits and towels and planned to stop for a swim. It was a really fun pool and we spent a few hours in the water. It's a bummer that it's so expensive - probably $40 or more for the six of us to swim!
Our friends the Blackwells have a peach tree that went crazy with peaches this year, so Larissa generously gave us some to can. My little peach peeler was eager to help!
Did I post a picture of our bucket list results? We definitely made some progress, but we didn't cross everything off. That's ok. I don't know if we ever have completed a whole list!

MVCKS does an open house early in September. It's not a traditional open house, but more of a classroom scavenger hunt. The kids all start together in the gym and sing a song or two for the parents. Afterwards, the kids go to their classrooms where each teacher has a scavenger hunt planned out. The kids show their parents everything on the list (find the book nook, show your mom the computer lab, etc) and then get a prize at the end for completing the scavenger hunt. It's a MADHOUSE in the school for about 30 minutes. With three kids now doing scavenger hunts, we were easily one of the last families to leave that night. It takes some time go to through everyone's classroom!
